The Intellectual Property (IP) Business Development Specialist will enjoy a highly visible position providing international marketing and business development assistance to the Intellectual Property Department of Haynes and Boone, LLP, a 70+ million practice with over 100 attorneys spread over 10 offices. This position will work closely with the IP attorneys and the business development and marketing team across all offices.
This exempt position provides direct support in the execution of a wide variety of business development efforts and initiatives including pitch books, presentations, proposals, research, content administration, marketing communications, event sponsorships and practice group coordination. The Specialist has primary responsibility for a number of initiatives, projects and other business development efforts.
Our national Business Development Team fosters collaboration and mutual support between team members with a keen focus on productivity, accountability, creativity, and high:performance. The role is appropriate for a marketing professional with at least 3 years of experience. Candidates must have direct and substantial experience with all aspects of IP including patent prosecution, IP litigation, copyright and trademark in a law firm or other professional services firm.
Essential Duties
Pitch Books, Presentations and Proposals, Bios and Other Marketing Materials:
:Responsible for creation, tailoring, and production of IP:related pitch books, presentations and proposals with a focus on persuasive content and tracking relevant information in the firms pitch book and proposal databases.
:Proactively capture revisions that need to be made to lawyer biographies, practice descriptions and experience records in the course of preparing press releases, other marketing materials, pitch books and proposals, as well as in interactions with attorneys, for applying any permanent updates to the business development documents and databases.
:Identify need and draft content that should be culled from pitch books and proposals or generated for future materials and added to the business development databases.
:Partner with the Business Development Manager, IP Department leadership, and individual partners, to identify the need for specific company, client, industry, competitor, and industry trends research using the firms research tools and internal databases to assist with business development efforts.
:Liaise with the Competitive Intelligence Team on firm:related and other significant research projects.
:Query IP databases (e.g., the USPTO website) for competitive intelligence and research new client opportunities.
:Monitor marketing efforts of competitive IP practices.
:Stay abreast of significant news and trends affecting the IP practice.
:Notify IP Department partners of potential cross:discipline and new client opportunities.
Content Administration:
:Accountable for making regular updates to lawyer biographies, practice group overviews, deal and case charts, representative client lists, and other materials.
:Support the collection of experience from attorneys and practice groups for inclusion in the firms business development databases. Ensure experience submissions meet the firms style standards.
:Track deadlines, manage contact information, and prepare up to date and representative submissions for key directory rankings, awards and league tables.
:Maintain and update practice group distribution and event lists in the firms customer relationship management (CRM) system.
:Update the firms CRM system to track new and developing business as directed by the BDMs.
:Prepare persuasive Firm website content for marketing the IP Department and its attorneys.
:Collect IP:specific alternative fee proposals and finalized agreements for assisting IP partners in structuring new proposals.
