PRIMARY PURPOSEResponsible for department level charge capture, charge reconciliation, analyzing and resolving claims denials and unbilled claim issues, reviewing accounts and performing charge review, and supporting Revenue Integrity initiatives on behalf of the department. Ensures billing compliance.MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONSEducation:: Requires Associate Degree, Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification.: Prefer Bachelor Degree in healthcare or finance.Experience:: Minimum of five (5) years working in healthcare, whether in a clinical or ancillary setting, or a Coding or Revenue Cycle department, which is highly preferred.Certification/Registration/Licensure:: Requires Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) if applicant does not have an Associate degree.Skills or Special Abilities:: Understanding of outpatient billing or charge capture, chart reviews and coding, payers and reimbursement related knowledge.: Knowledge of third party payors, insurance coverage, eligibility and other revenue cycle concepts.: Knowledge, understanding, and proper application of: oMedicare, Medicaid and third party payer billing and reporting requirements oUniform Billing (UB:04) revenue codes oCurrent Procedural Terminology (CPT) / Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and International Classification of Disease (ICD) coding system oNational Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) / Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) / Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) CPT / HCPCS / Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE), Medicare, Medicaid and other payer coding edits.: Must be able to work effectively with computerized systems and demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Office products including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.: Must possess mathematical skills, be detail oriented, have problem solving and critical thinking skills.: Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with a wide range of audiences such as insurance providers, counterparts, managers, department staff, etc.: Must demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal skills.: Must have medical terminology knowledge and understanding of medical practice operations.: Prefer working knowledge of Epic system.: Utilizes creativity and innovation in attaining desired outcomes.
