We seek a highly-motivated individual to join our diverse campus community as a Licensing Associate in the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC).

The Licensing Associate will:
be responsible for a diverse portfolio of technologies, with a large portion relating to material science, electronics, and other types of engineering; evaluate invention disclosures for commercial potential and patentability; work with faculty to determine developmental strategies for inventions and determine pathways for protection; collaborate closely with the OTC team to ensure all cases are given adequate attention and appropriately tracked in the database; maintain an agreement docket to track the activity of negotiations, potential licenses, and completed agreements.

The mission of the OTC is to effectively and efficiently facilitate the evaluation, protection, patenting, and transfer of UT Dallas innovations for the benefit of the citizens of the region, the state of Texas, and society in general. • Assess UTD inventions to determine their commercial feasibility, and perform market and intellectual property analyses to determine viable inventions for licensing.
• Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with inventors, industry partners, and technology commercialization personnel to develop cohesive licensing strategies and marketing materials.
• Educate and advise University inventors and potential industry licensees regarding University intellectual property policies and related technology commercialization issues.
• Manage multiple projects from a variety of disciplines with excellent attention to detail and create development strategies to maximize potential for each case.
• Market technologies to identify potential licensing opportunities and alternative applications.
• Draft and negotiate agreements relating to the commercialization of University technology and assist with maintaining systems for reporting and tracking information on projects and inventions.
• Manage relationships with licensees, negotiate contract amendments, and address matters of contract compliance to ensure compliance with OTC procedures and policies.
• Communicate effectively in both academic and corporate cultures; frequently interact with scientists, research sponsors, industry representatives, and patent attorneys.

Education Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Master degree in a STEM major and one to three years of experience in appropriate technical discipline.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate degree in Material Science or Engineering, MBA. One to three years of experience performing prior art searches/patent eligibility analyses and drafting reports, performing commercial viability analyses, and drafting/negotiating university technology licenses.
