The Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship is responsible for developing and managing the university’s central donor relations and stewardship activity. The Director is part of the Program Services and Donor Relations area and leads the team responsible for a comprehensive stewardship program that focuses on donor acknowledgement, recognition, endowment reporting, and specialized donor stewardship programs. The Director collaborates closely with Development and External Affairs colleagues to maintain donor relations standards across all areas of the university.

Responsibilities include developing a more strategic, focused approach to the highest level of lifetime giving and overseeing and managing specialized projects and stewardship communications. He/she will introduce and implement new programs as necessary and represent Donor Relations in weekly meetings and maintain a strong knowledge of best practices and trends in the field. Excellent organizational, time and project management, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required as well as collaborating and guiding the integrity and maintenance of database records and files including those used to track donor and gift information, endowments, major gifts, and other contributions.


Required: Bachelor's degree, five years progressive work experience in donor relations and/or fundraising/development, knowledge of industry standards, experience leading and managing a professional development team and prior budget experience.

Preferred: Master’s degree, understanding of endowment spending, prior work experience in higher education, knowledge and experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) system, and database experience with Access or File Maker.

The successful candidate must have strong team management, team leadership and experience leading a group. Time and project management, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, writing, copy editing, preparing reports, analytical abilities and make effective and persuasive presentations.
