This position possesses the required academic and/or experiential preparation in diabetes program management and in the care of persons with diabetes to effectively coordinate diabetes education service activities and its staff, with specific focus on the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Program (ADAERP) for the ambulatory/outpatient services at Parkland.

: Must have a Bachelors degree in Nursing or Nutrition.
: Masters degree preferred.
: Must have four years of clinical experience working with patients who have chronic illness, to include two years of program management experience
Equivalent Experience:
: May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.
: RN Only: Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license.
: RN Only:
:Must have a current ent Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:
oAmerican Heart Association
oAmerican Red Cross Rescuer
oMilitary Training Network.
: RD Only: Must be a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and a Licensed Dietitian by the Texas Board of Examiners of Dietitians.
: RD Only:
:Must have a current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:
oAmerican Heart Association
oAmerican Red Cross Rescuer
oMilitary Training Network.
: Must have Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification.
Required Tests for Placement:
RN Only: Applicants must pass (85 or above) Dosage Calculation Exam prior to hospital orientation. Current Parkland employees requesting reassignment to role must have current Dosage Calculation Exam on file.
Skills or Special Abilities:
: Must be able to communicate effectively with professional nursing staff, medical staff and allied health professionals attending or lecturing in classes.
: Must have superior writing skills to compose course outlines, objectives and manuals.
: Must demonstrate competence in technical skills and knowledge related to assigned clinical area.
: Must be organized and creative in the educational process for both individual and large group classes.
: Must have exemplary clinical skills in assigned area of responsibility.
: Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
: RN only: Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.
