Job DescriptionThe Church Accountant is responsible for managing all accounting and internal and external financial reporting functions of Westminster Presbyterian Church, including its Preschool/Kindergarten. This includes accounting for pledges and other income, payroll, expenditures and assets, managing cash positions and maintaining related records. Responsibilities: Review the churchs financial policies, cash management activities and financial procedures and recommend changes.Accurately account for all of the churchs financial transactions using the churchs general ledger accounting software system. Assist in the development of the annual budget process with the Finance Committee, and support the Session and the committee chairs in the preparation of their respective annual budgets.Prepare accurate monthly and annual financial reports on a timely basis and help interpret financial statements and budget accounting information.Attend all Finance Committee meetings.Assist in identifying, securing and managing insurance relevant to the churchs needs.Maintain the safe keeping of the churchs financial records (including all bank deposit tickets) in accordance with applicable legal requirements and good business practices.Maintain digital records of transactions thus supporting the entries to the general ledger.Manage Positive Pay with the current bank.Manage accounting systems to handle all financial matters for the church Qualifications: Demonstrate proficiency in budgeting, bookkeeping, accounting, and reporting. Be a self-starter with strong interpersonal, organizational, decision making, and task completion skills. Be committed to excellence in all aspects of accounting and finance activities, including proper handling of confidential material. Be flexible and able to manage the dynamics of employment in a ministry related support function. Demonstrate the ability to master and manage computerized accounting and reporting systems, with some experience with the Shelby accounting system and Microsoft Excel being preferred. Have some familiarity with insurance issues. CPA and/or equivalent experience preferred. Church or non-profit experience a plus.
